Touring
The Gulf of Izmir is about forty miles in length and has an area approximately the same area as the Bristol Channel in Britain. In the north the bay opens onto the Mediterranean. There are many sheltered bays and islands and a number of towns where the harbour facilities range from very extensive to very limited.

There are many towns and villages that are worth visiting, including Foça, Izmir, Çesme and Balikova. Anchoring is possible almost everywhere along the coast for lunch and snorkelling or for staying the night.

The wind is usually from the northwest, leaving the south sides of the islands and the bays facing south or east very well sheltered. There is distinctly more wind than one is accustomed to in the Mediterranean, usually the wind picks up to force 3 or 4 in the afternoon. This, combined with the pleasant temperatures makes it the ideal place for a holiday on the water.

Regattas
There will be many regattas held at Atlas Marina, from regular regional contests to large international races. Racing can be done by all classes, from beachcats and dinghies to large yachts. Due to the facilities and the attractive conditions, a number of European national sailing teams have shown interest in using Atlas Marina as a training base in the off-season.

The location of the marina makes it possible to lay out short courses on flat water, yet allows for offshore racing on the Mediterranean. The water is surrounded by land on three sides, making it more accessible for spectators.

Wind Surfing
The peninsula of Çesme has long been known as a surfer’s paradise. The stable wind and the different wave heights within short distance of each other, make for ideal windsurfing conditions.

Atlas Marina will have a surfshop where material can be rented and bought and where you can go for repairs.

The location of the Marina ensures that all levels of experience are catered for, from the beginner to the expert.
