The following map shows average temperatures in Turkey. The Çesme peninsula is located in the warm coastal band that stretches along the southern and western coast.

Because the peninsula is so flat, clouds usually form over the higher land, leaving Urla dry.

Precipitation:

In fact the peninsula is one of the dryest areas on the coast. The area is, however, surprisingly green. This is due to the rivers and streams that run down the mountains round Izmir. The area has the highest number of days with sunshine on the entire Turkish coast.
