The wind conditions are one of the aspects of the location that make Atlas Marina so unique. In fact the wind is so stable that the area has been chosen to house Turkey's first wind-powered generator plant. The topography has a lot to do with this: Izmir is flanked by a mountain range that slowly heats up in the sunshine. This pulls in colder sea air and generates the 'Imbat', the north to northwesterly wind. The effect is that the extreme heat is countered by a sea breeze that peaks in the afternoon and blows until well into the evening. |
